Wood You Say I’m Stumped Or Crazy?

If you’ve read my blog for any length of time, you might remember that I have a fascination with clouds and cloud shapes and I see animals out of fallen trees.  Well, I’m at it again.  It’s been a while, but I found two more wood pieces (on the same hike even) that I swear look similar to living creatures.  Do you see it?

Tree Stump Creature #1

05-22 Tree Stump Animal1Tree Stump Creature #2

05-22 Tree Stump Animal2

What do you see in these pictures?  I saved my interpretations until the end so you could form your own unbiased opinion as to what image you see in each photo.  To find out what my warped creative mind came up with, read below.

No cheating….make your guesses first…

Okay, read on 🙂

When I look at the part of the wood in the foreground in the first picture, I see a large lizard – its head on the left and tail curling on the right.  That’s a stretch?  Okay, I’ll really freak you out.  When I look at the whole tree, I see a twisted body (with a really messed up leg) and two skeletal arms reaching up for help.  Uh oh.  Here come the folks in the white lab coats.  Quick, let’s see if the next one makes more sense…

Ah, the second picture.  Today, it looks kind of like a big chunk of wood, but when I took the picture, I saw a side view of a raccoon.  Most likely, the discoloration/shading on top reminded me of raccoon’s mask.

There you have it.  I may be just one tree stump away from being deemed crazy.  (At least, it’s what I gathered from eavesdropping on the White Coats.)  That’s the good news.  The bad news is that if you saw what I did, you’re just as crazy as I am 😆

Thanks for stopping by for some mid-week silliness.  Have an insanely happy Wednesday!

You’re not crazy, Janna. Your imagination sees past what really is to what could be, past what could be to what might never be, and past what might never be to what will be when the time is right.

I saw a man running from a troll that crawled out from under a bridge. I definitely saw the lizard after you identified it for me. The lizard could bite the troll. I think I like that better than the man running away.

What a fun post! Blessings to you…

The man running from a troll cracked me up, Carol Ann – that’s creative! Thanks for taking the time to play along with the silliness here 🙂

  2. SuziCate May 22, 2013 / 10:24 AM

The white lab coats are coming for me, too! The first one I saw an alligator laying on his back. The second one- the white part looked like a cow head but on a panda bear body. Guess I have an overactive imagination!

    • jannatwrites May 22, 2013 / 10:58 PM

Oh, goody – I’ll have company 🙂 A cow head on a panda body – I didn’t see that one! (Is it a pandow or a canda?) I’m glad you decided to play along. It’s fun learning what other people see.

  3. Sean May 22, 2013 / 12:19 PM

I saw the lizard also but I also was thinking that the whole thing was a big lizard on its back with its hind legs up in the air. The second pic I saw a bear, I think more cartoony type than real. I can see the raccoon but still saw a bear first. All cuddly and such. Yes, my mind is not quite right but thanks for the breather as it has been a rough week.

    • jannatwrites May 22, 2013 / 10:59 PM

I’m glad this silly post served as a break for you, Sean. I’m sorry you’ve had a rough week, but at least there is only 2 more days til the weekend! Thanks for taking time to play along.

  4. pattisj May 22, 2013 / 1:02 PM

If you’re crazy, I’m going with you…I thought the first one was the last hiker where he’d been knocked flat on his back and couldn’t get up. The raccoon mask is a giveaway. It HAS to be a raccoon. A petrified raccoon, at that.

    • jannatwrites May 22, 2013 / 11:01 PM

Yay! More company 🙂 (Better get a bus?) I’m so glad you saw the raccoon, too, Patti. My husband just looks at me like I’m nuts when I’m showing him these things (and trying to get him to confirm that these animals do exist!

      • pattisj May 22, 2013 / 11:03 PM

        Bus is good, I’ll drive!

        • jannatwrites May 22, 2013 / 11:05 PM

Oh boy…this oughta be fun! 😛

        • pattisj May 22, 2013 / 11:06 PM

          Agreed!

  5. Widdershins May 22, 2013 / 1:30 PM

For the first one, I saw a stick insect (a praying mantis kind’a critter) on its back. And the second one is clearly a black floppy-eared pig on a scooter!

    • jannatwrites May 22, 2013 / 11:03 PM

Pig on a scooter! I didn’t see it until I just went back and looked, and by golly, that raccoon masquerades as a scooting pig. Glad you joined in the goofiness here, Widdershins!

  6. mindofshoo May 22, 2013 / 2:32 PM

I thought a panda in the second picture. But I see a raccoon too!

    • jannatwrites May 22, 2013 / 11:04 PM

We have a couple of panda votes here, and I can see that, too. Glad you decided to share your vision, Mindofshoo!

  7. Dave May 22, 2013 / 2:53 PM

That title reminded me of J.A. Robinson’s “Daily Graff” blog. He’s a big lover of all sorts of punny headlines 🙂

    • jannatwrites May 22, 2013 / 11:06 PM

I haven’t heard of that blog. I’ll have to check it out! thanks for stopping by, Dave.

  8. nrhatch May 22, 2013 / 6:10 PM

The 2nd one looks like a pig with a curly tail, holding a walking stick like Yoda.

The 1st one looks like a branch laying on the ground.

    • Lane May 22, 2013 / 10:25 PM

I totally see the pig you’re talking about.

      • jannatwrites May 22, 2013 / 11:13 PM

Now that she mentioned it, it seems rather obvious 🙂

    • jannatwrites May 22, 2013 / 11:10 PM

Okay, I can see the pig and walking stick, Nancy. My husband agrees with your opinion of the first one…he thinks I’m nuts (pretty sure he’s the one that called the white coats, but I can’t prove it :))

  9. Lane May 22, 2013 / 10:28 PM

Completely agree with your interpretation on the first picture… twisted body (with a really messed up leg) and two skeletal arms reaching up for help. In the second photo I see a pig or boar.

    • jannatwrites May 22, 2013 / 11:16 PM

I don’t know if I should be relieved or disturbed that someone else sees the twisted body 😛 At any rate, I’m relieved because I wondered if my interpretation was a result of some sort of masked darkness in me! I’m so glad you stopped by to join in, Lane. I have fun with these (and it’s so much more entertaining when others participate!)

  10. Diane Turner May 22, 2013 / 11:52 PM

I saw the same thing as SuziCate – a back-bathing alligator and a cow. Too funny. Thanks for sharing.

    • jannatwrites May 23, 2013 / 9:44 PM

I still don’t see the alligator. I think my mind is too set on the strange-leg guy reaching for help. Thanks for joining in, Diane! I hope I find more odd stumps soon so we can play again 🙂

  11. knotrune May 23, 2013 / 2:55 AM

I saw the twisted body and the second one as a bear. So it looks as if either all your blog readers are like you or the ones who are just thinking ‘huh, they’re all mad, I’m getting out of here!’ are not commenting 🙂

    • jannatwrites May 23, 2013 / 9:46 PM

Whoo-hoo – another twisted body vote 🙂 (We’ll let you on the bus – Patti’s driving!)

I think your second guess is about right – the sane people just aren’t commenting 😛

  12. Michael May 23, 2013 / 12:12 PM

I saw the skeletal arms in the first picture, but the second one really didn’t say “raccoon” to me. It said badger. Definitely badger. A small, sad sort of badger, wistfully leaning on his walking stick and dreaming of glorious badger days gone by…..

    • jannatwrites May 23, 2013 / 9:48 PM

Hmm…you’re the first badger, Michael. I have to confess, I’m not that familiar with badgers, so I’ll need to check out Google images. I think several agree that a walking stick comes into play, whatever the animal might be 🙂 I’m glad you decided to play along with the silly game here!

  13. David Allen May 23, 2013 / 1:44 PM

This post is really cool. I always see patterns, faces, and shapes in inanimate objects, but no one ever sees them. However, I do not like one aspect of this post…the second picture is clearly not a raccoon. It’s obviously a panda. But I just Ctrl+F’d “panda” and realize that I am not the only one. I’d love to see more posts like this.

    • jannatwrites May 23, 2013 / 9:54 PM

In my defense, there was at least one other person who said “raccoon”- HOWEVER, I do think there were more “panda” responses. They both have the face coloring going on, so it makes sense. (Although, I rather like the pig on a scooter guess, too.)

I like looking for these types of tree pieces, but ttey are tricky because I have to see them at a certain angle/distance. If I get too close, or change the angle, sometimes the resemblance is lost. When I do find more, I’ll definitely go another round here. Thanks for stopping by to play along, David!

  14. diannegray May 23, 2013 / 3:12 PM

I’m as crazy as you are, Janna, because I can see a twisted body in the first one and a raccoon in the second. Hubby gets a magazine delivered (I don’t even know what it’s called) and I always grab it and go to the page where people take pictures of wood that look like ballet dancers or faces etc. I just love it! 😀

    • jannatwrites May 23, 2013 / 9:58 PM

The bus is getting full, Dianne 🙂 My husband usually doesn’t see the wood animals, but he actually saw the raccoon, too.

That’s funny how you snag the magazine for that. It is kind of fun. Thanks for playing along – the comments are what have made this post so much fun!

  15. Eric Alagan May 23, 2013 / 5:25 PM

    I did not cheat —

The first image – yes, I saw a large monitor lizard too – but no dead guy. That’s makes me a quarter crazy. Why? Because I saw only a clump of wood in the second image – I’m half sane here. Taken as a whole – I’m only quarter crazy 🙂

    • jannatwrites May 23, 2013 / 10:00 PM

      I trust you, Eric 🙂

I’m not sure about your math, but you get bonus points for not seeing the dead guy with the messed up leg 🙂 (Not sure what to say about the rest of us!)

Sorry, we can’t let you on the crazy bus that Patti volunteered to drive, but I’m glad you decided to play along!

  16. Imelda May 24, 2013 / 9:12 AM

I thought that the first one was a giant praying mantis; the second one is easier, a big black bear. And I am proud of myself because I have not peeked at your answers yet. 🙂 I will, after I post this response. 🙂

    • jannatwrites May 24, 2013 / 11:56 AM

I think someone else guessed praying mantis, too, Imelda. Others said bear as well (but the most controversy is with the second one 🙂 I’m so glad you decided to play along!

  17. Sandra May 31, 2013 / 1:18 PM

Two thoughts for #1: person lying down with arms on top (like your description) and a praying mantis (even before reading Imelda’s comment), and #2: a blg black bear. I guess my answers are similar to Imelda’s, but I came up with them completely on my own. First. 🙂
