A Week of Mondays

Mondays get a bad rap, but I don’t hold grudges against them… usually!

Monday started off very Monday-like:  the back-light went out on one of my computer monitors I use for work.  After years of working with two monitors, working with one felt like shifting from email to chiseling messages on stone tablets.  I have another monitor in place now, so that crisis was resolved.

But technology wasn’t done with me yet.  It turns out the monitor was like an appetizer… just prepping me for the main course.

On Monday, I also experienced increasing issues with my internet connectivity.  I thought maybe it was my router because I bought it about ten years ago.  I bought a new one and was relieved when the configuration went smoother than I expected.  My joy would be short-lived.  The connection held for about half an hour and then my computer wouldn’t connect to the internet again.

Anyway, after several hours of fiddling with it, talking to our internet provider and talking to support for the router, I decided to try my husband’s computer.  I’ve been using it for nearly two hours and it hasn’t dropped the internet connection once.

Sigh.

I think it’s my computer.  If I don’t lose connection on my work computer tomorrow, I’ll know for sure.

Not to sound like a melodramatic teenager, but this is tragic!  Okay, that was an exaggeration… but it is going to cramp my blogging activity until I get this fixed.   (I know I’m behind on everything… responding to comments, reading subscriptions, visiting new subscribers… aaack!)

Please be patient with me.  I’ve had a week of Mondays and I really need a Saturday 🙂

Spotty Internet connectivity is the worst. I feel your pain. 😦

    • jannatwrites July 5, 2014 / 1:12 AM

It has been a frustrating inconvenience, Michael. We had a computer guy come out and he got the router set up, but said my computerhad viruses and won’t connect to the internet. 😦

I don’t mean I like the fact that you’re having so many technical difficulties, but I like the fact you’re using the post to vent about it. The only thing worse than Mondays is having too many of them in one week. I’ve often said that about naps (not that you can ever have too many naps), but it’s like they create additional “mornings” when you wake up. And morning is bad enough the first time. 😉

    • jannatwrites July 5, 2014 / 1:15 AM

I’m not a nap person myself, maybe it has something to do with the 2 mornings feeling you described. Yes, one a day is plenty :-P. There was so much more about this week that didn’t make it in this post… didn’t want to be too whiny, Deborah!

      • Deborah July 5, 2014 / 6:44 AM

You have never sounded whiny to me. Sometimes, we all need a safe place to vent. 🙂

        • jannatwrites July 8, 2014 / 12:23 AM

Thanks, Deborah. It helped to share the goings on.

Poor Janna — hope you get things resolved soon! We get so accustomed to computers and all they do for us that when they go on the blink, we feel completely lost. Now that Mercury is going forward again, perhaps things will improve all around!

    • jannatwrites July 5, 2014 / 1:19 AM

Well, there’s good news and bad news from the whole ordeal. In order to move on, I’ll not dwell too much on the bad. Thanks for sharing your support, Debbie!

Now that we are connected, being disconnected seems ODD. At least tomorrow is Friday . . . and a HOLIDAY! Happy 4th.

  5. Sean July 3, 2014 / 8:31 AM

Saturday’s are short lived. Fridays are the good days usually. They let you feel the anticipation of the weekend ahead without being overwhelmed by all the stuff that you have to try to accomplish in the one day you have. Or at least that is with me. Sorry to hear of the frustrations that you have had this past week. At least you can go out with a bang or at least watch some this weekend. Take care. I need to get back to work. UUGGGHHHHHH

    • jannatwrites July 5, 2014 / 1:25 AM

Thanks for your comment, Sean. It made me smile :-P. Well, the good news is that the router is fixed. Bad news, it cost $125. More bad news, my pc has viruses that prevent internet access. Even worse news is how much they want to repair it (I won’t be going that route.) Good news is my writing docs are unaffected and i have a tablet i can use for blog stuff.

ARGH – I hate internet issues. I really hope you’re back up and running soon, Janna xxxx

    • jannatwrites July 5, 2014 / 1:30 AM

Thanks, Dianne. Since my pc has viruses, it will be a while before I’m all set. At least I have a tablet I can use for blogging although the virtual keyboard slows me down a bit 😀

  7. pattisj July 4, 2014 / 12:28 PM

It’s never a good day when our tech gadgets go haywire. Hopefully they’ll settle down soon!

    • jannatwrites July 5, 2014 / 1:32 AM

Thanks, Patti. I’ve got a workaround that is a little inconvenient but it’s something. My cat is sick, so that’s eclipsed the technical problems!

  8. Leigh W. Smith July 4, 2014 / 12:58 PM

Weird, but my husband’s computer (which he swears is NOT better than mine) has far fewer problems than mine, too. Operator error, in my case, I suppose! Here’s wishing you a Saturday both today & tomorrow, Janna (to make up for all the Mundane-days)! 🙂

    • jannatwrites July 5, 2014 / 1:35 AM

I appreciate the wishes, Leigh. My computer has viruses, so that was part of the problem…it creates more headaches, though! I’m looking forward to enjoying Saturday!

  9. Imelda July 4, 2014 / 8:11 PM

I’m sorry to hear about those issues, Janna. I hope your technology issues gets resolved soon. 🙂

    • jannatwrites July 5, 2014 / 1:38 AM

Thanks, Imelda. Things will be off for a while.. the computer person charges too much to repair the pc.it’s almost half of what I paid for it 4years ago, so I don’t think I’ll do that.

Be easy on yourself! Sometimes life gives us a sabbatical we hadn’t planned. Technology can be vexing, but sometimes its hiccups give us a chance to take a deep breath and come back to our projects with new energy.

    • jannatwrites July 8, 2014 / 12:25 AM

True. I did find out from a techie friend that completely reinstalling the OS will fix the problem, so I’ll be doing backups and learning how to do this over the next few days.

All you women ever do is whine. Why, I remember when I was young and we didn’t have computers, and we’d…, Wait, that wasn’t me!

    • jannatwrites July 8, 2014 / 12:28 AM

Haha.. I remember life without computers (or cell phones) but boy, that was a long time ago! Thanks for the chuckle, Emilio 😛

  12. Miss Lou July 6, 2014 / 8:40 PM

Amazing how much it throws us out when our connection goes AWOL.. lol – ESPECIALLY when so much of what we do these days revolves around instant connection to the world.
Hopefully it has resolved itself now, without you having to get any major repairs on your current system – or having to buy another one *gulps*

    • jannatwrites July 8, 2014 / 12:34 AM

It really has disrupted my whole process, Miss Lou! Can’t afford a new pc, so I’ll be trying to fix it myself. If I’m not careful, I might just figure out what I’m doing 😀

      • Miss Lou July 8, 2014 / 12:37 AM

        *grumbles* @ the disruption

I was a fan, although I didn;t drop by too often the times I did I spent quite a lot of time going through all the ones I missed! #AwesomeConcept

Hope to see you back soon 🙂 If you manage to get any trash days done in the month of July, I’ll link you up and send you out to my audience 🙂 About 4500 (though 4000 might be sleeping.. lol)

        Take care

        • jannatwrites July 8, 2014 / 1:00 AM

I appreciate you stopping by when you can, ML! I’m not going away completely, but I’m using a tablet for blogging until I fix my pc…. it just takes a little longer for me to get it done 🙂

        • Miss Lou July 8, 2014 / 1:01 AM

          *nods* I understand 🙂

  13. Eric Alagan July 6, 2014 / 10:07 PM

I know exactly how you feel, Janna,

I recently renewed my anti virus software. Of course, they added all sorts of gizmos in the new version that took me out of my comfort zone. Now, I need to figure out how to stop some of the stuff my computer insists on doing.

The helpful guy in India suggested it was quite straight forward. I asked him if he knew how to fix power surges on a jet engine. He said, no. I took great pleasure in telling him how straight forward it was for me!

    Cheers,
    Eric

    • jannatwrites July 8, 2014 / 12:37 AM

Haha, oh your response was great! Witty, and it gets the point across well, Eric. I’m not a complete tech idiot, but this process sure made me feel like one!

  14. GodGirl July 13, 2014 / 5:30 AM

That sounded hard, Janna! Has Saturday come yet? I hope all those tech problems were ironed out.
We don’t realise how much we rely on technology until it malfunctions… then again, I guess we could say that about most things 🙂

    • jannatwrites July 15, 2014 / 5:40 PM

I’m sure a Saturday must be on the horizon, GodGirl! I’m not going to let the glitches and troubles keep me down for long 🙂
