About Me

Updated June 3, 2014

AboutMeRibbon

Some say “less is more”- and I’ve read some memorable, short-and-sweet About Me pages.  Since I’m not one to heed good advice, I’ll go with the rambling approach and see who is left by the end.  Ready?

This is a writing blog, so it feels weird to give personal info, but I know the curious nature of people, so here goes:

  • I’m in my forties, but my mind refuses to accept it.
  • I have two sons who regularly remind me of my age just by their height and shoe sizes (who are these giants who have taken over my little boys’ bodies? And where is all the food in my fridge?!)
  • I love animals and have two dogs and three cats who graciously allow me to live with them and pay all the bills (Aren’t they sweet?)
  • I like all colors, but purple is my favorite. (Shhh…don’t tell the others.)
  • I lived in Phoenix for over twenty-five years before relocating to the cooler climate found further north (not all of Arizona is HOT!)
  • I have a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, but I work in insurance…with computers (Oh, the irony…)

Now for some writing facts (if anyone is still reading…)

  • My first real interest in writing was in high school. I started writing poetry because my friend, Holly, was a prolific poetry writer. I kept writing because I enjoyed it and actually wrote one or two decent poems.
  • I took a creative writing course in college that turned me off to writing all together. I didn’t write creatively for about nine years…that’s when a poem accidentally happened, and I started a novel several months later. (No, I haven’t heard of learning to walk before you run.)
  • I have repeatedly failed to write a novel. I finally conquered this failure by writing a complete novel several years ago. It’s unpublished, but one day, I might put effort into changing that.
  • I write lots of short stories because they fit my attention span.
  • I overuse commas, love ellipses, adore parentheses, and am a huge supporter of semi-colons (That’s right- I even wrote a post about them!)
  • I’m a closet writing prompt addict. I started with Trifecta (my ‘gateway prompt’), but moved on to Yeah Write challenges in 2013.  Sometimes I participate in Lance’s 100-Word Song, and have been tempted to dabble with others. I’m still able to function in society, but if given the chance, I’d be holed up in a dark room with my laptop, furiously responding to prompts. Sad, I know.
  • I love to write poems with photo inspiration (I’m not a photographer, but I love taking pictures of God’s world!)
  • I try my best to allow my faith and hope to shed light on the positive side of life. Negativity is not allowed to roam here. No matter what I write, I don’t take myself too seriously. (That doesn’t mean I don’t ever write creepy or depressing fiction, though.)
  • Once a week (on Sundays) I like to write about my spiritual journey. Unfortunately, life and procrastination have joined forces to limit these posts lately. But it’s still a goal!
  • I’m not a master at many things, but I am an expert procrastinator. (Look at me; tooting my own horn…I’m getting better at it!) Proof: I have two novel ideas that I started as serial stories on this blog and both are unfinished and barely progressing.
  • I’m terrified of “officially” publishing my work, which is why I’m starting to submit stories for publication in 2014. The rejection is doing wonders for my confidence.

There you have it.  That’s me in a very thin nutshell.  A nutcase, if you will.  If you want to read more, feel free to check out my writing pages- Random Writing, Writing Prompts, Darlene’s  Story.

If you think you’d still like to read more, I add new posts 2 to 4 times a week.  My posts are willing to stalk your email box for free!  All you have to do is click the “Sign Me Up” button in the side bar.  I don’t know why you’d do that, but, hey, you’ve been warned 😆

Thanks for stopping by my place and catching a glimpse of my life and writing journey.  I hope you will visit again soon.

If you have something to say, please leave a comment or you can click here to send me an email.

Always,

JSig

Aw, Janna, no social security number? You’re no fun! lol, s’ok, I’m paranoid too. 🙂

We seem to be in the same boat. I too have a novel for which I’m trying to get an agent. If you want, I can give you a few tips on queries/agent-getting? I haven’t gotten one yet, but I figure we starving artists may as well help each other. 🙂

    • jannatwrites July 20, 2010 / 8:08 PM

If you’ve got any tips to share, I’d gladly take them! I feel pretty good about the query – I’ve done an online critique and after a few months, I finally got a query together that didn’t get shredded, but I’m far from knowing what I’m doing…

Awww…Lizzy looks a lot like a cat I once had.

I love your blog; you should be a writer, I tell you.

    • jannatwrites August 21, 2010 / 4:54 PM

I’m glad you stopped by! Thank you so much for the compliment. My dream is to one day be a published author, but even if that doesn’t happen, I’m still having fun with the blog!

    • jannatwrites September 2, 2010 / 8:55 PM

Thanks! I appreciate the comment 🙂

    • jannatwrites September 19, 2010 / 1:05 PM

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I love to get feedback so I get an idea of what I’m doing right and where I can improve. 🙂

Hmmm, we have a lot in common. I worked in the insurance industry for a while, live in Az (but I’m a native) and am really paranoid about the internet. (this isn’t even my real name).

    Like your blog.

    • jannatwrites September 27, 2010 / 8:30 PM

We do have a lot in common. When I first started in insurance, the joke was after five years, you’re in it for life. Well, I thought it was a joke, but fourteen years later I’m beginning to wonder….

I’m glad you stopped by, fellow Arizonan 🙂

  5. ledzupprulz November 16, 2010 / 8:56 PM

Thanks 🙂 Even if you don’t know how you ended up here, I’m glad you stopped by!

  6. Addy November 18, 2010 / 9:55 PM

Hey jannat, I do infact know how I came across your blog (through Ollin’s and Browneyed’s!), and I do have to admit that your blog is really awesome.. Glad to also know that your done with your novel..

Am in the process of writing one but also interested in short stories and essays.. Have published a short story in my blog recently..

    Thanks & Best wishes,
    Addy 🙂

    • jannatwrites November 18, 2010 / 10:25 PM

Hi, Addy! I’m glad you decided to stop by…and thanks so much for the compliment 🙂

Good luck on the novel, and enjoy the journey. I’d love to read the short story…I’ll stop by your place this weekend!

  7. Clar January 7, 2011 / 5:37 PM

That was a great about me page. Congrats on your novel. I guess you know about The Writers Manual where one can find articles about query letters and agents and all kinds off things a writer should know. Also know about TheWritersChatroom.com. Every Wed and Sun eve they have authors and general questions about the writers life. The chatroom helped me last Wed when I told of my publishing house wanting to do illustrations for my childrens book without a contract.

    • jannatwrites January 7, 2011 / 9:20 PM

Thanks for sharing the writer information – I had not heard about either of those resources.

About my novel…I have to get my thoughts together, but I’ll be doing a post (I hope in the next couple of weeks) about my writing direction. I’ve been working through some things and it’s possible that I may shelf that first novel. It was an important step in my journey, though!

I appreciate your stopping by and leaving the helpful comment 🙂

  8. kerrycharacters January 15, 2011 / 7:25 PM

Having worked for an insurance company some time ago I think that therapy may still be needed – although I suppose it depends what your job was. Mine was working as a legal advisor, sometimes deciding whether to make payouts to a widow or not. I always erred on the side of caution shall we say so I must have cost them a lot of money!

    • jannatwrites January 17, 2011 / 12:06 AM

I haven’t ruled out the need for therapy! I haven’t had direct contact with customers, but have dealt with agents who place business with the company, so I think I may be okay. I don’t envy the job you had to do and don’t think I could’ve done it. (Claims is another area that would not work for me.)

  9. bookjunkie January 16, 2011 / 9:35 AM

I am paranoid about the internet as well but I do enjoy blogging anonymously. It allows me to be free with my words and my blog is basically my diary.

Your about page is witty and cute as you must be, and I love it 🙂

    • jannatwrites January 16, 2011 / 11:56 PM

Okay, I’m blushing again (or perhaps it’s still?) with your compliment. Thank you 🙂

I’m glad you found your way to my blog and felt compelled to comment. Annonymously posting is liberating, for sure. I’ve opened up a little, but family pics are still off-limits.

      • bookjunkie September 15, 2011 / 12:35 AM

I’ve come by again and what I like about your writing and your about page is that it’s just so real, down to earth, and from the heart.

For myself, I still write anonymously….although I share a lot about my personal life experiences like you and I find it to be free therapy and liberating.

        • jannatwrites September 15, 2011 / 8:26 PM

Thank you for visiting again, Bookjunkie. There is some freedom with being an unknown on the Web. Some use it to spread hate, but your space is uplifting (and informative…love the pics of your travels).

  10. widdershins January 27, 2011 / 3:38 PM

Hi Janna… I found my way here via Clar’s blog. I like how you write…. think I’ll drop by every now and then …

…. anonymousness is good, but a pen-name/username is more fun…. it also creates a boundary between being ‘anon’ and exposing oneself unnecessarily, where one can be authentic as well….

…. hm-mm, I’ve used that word authentic several times today when leaving comments on the blogs I follow…. it’s such a rich word… I think I’ll keep on using it 🙂

    • jannatwrites January 27, 2011 / 7:47 PM

I’m glad you stopped by, widdershins. I agree that a pen name is a good thing. It’s like living a double life, right?

Come back and visit when you can 🙂

  11. Josè Pascal February 10, 2011 / 4:28 AM

Surfing the waves of the web I am pleasantly stranded in this beautiful blog.

I write under the pseudonym of Josè Pascal (a descendant of the great Colonel Aureliano Buendía).

I invite you to visit my italian writing blog http://parolesemplici.wordpress.com/mytinbox/. I define this blog “In parole Semplici” as a “virtuacultural tin” box where they are guarded thoughts, memories, images, sounds, and simple stories. ”

If you want to participate and to have more informations send me a letter to inparolesempli@gmail.com

Good life and I hope to soon

    • jannatwrites February 10, 2011 / 7:51 PM

Thanks for stopping by, Jose. I checked out your blog, too. I like the English/Italian text, which is helpful because I only write in English 🙂

      • Josè Pascal February 11, 2011 / 12:49 PM

thanks for your interest. My tin box will be always open for your writing. i love the idea of intercultural blog, a “meltin pot” of culture 🙂
        see u next

        • jannatwrites February 11, 2011 / 4:37 PM

Thanks, Jose. I’ll keep this in mind when I have another story.

        • Josè Pascal June 28, 2011 / 7:35 AM

don’t forget the tin box 😉

        • jannatwrites June 28, 2011 / 7:50 PM

Thanks for the reminder, Jose. My writing is often more than 3,000 to 4,000 characters, but should I have a short-short, I’ll keep it in mind!

  12. pattyabr February 13, 2011 / 8:43 AM

you have a following of followers. are they friends you know or internet acquaintences?

    • jannatwrites February 13, 2011 / 2:35 PM

Hi, Patty! There is one person that I met in a writing class who visits periodically, but everyone else that visits are people that I’ve met online.

  13. Desi February 16, 2011 / 6:50 AM

Hi, Janna? I stumbled on your blog when I was “strolling around” wordpress. I like reading personal blogs like yours, if you don’t mind, or if you do mind, may I suscribe? It’s much cooler than bookmarking blogs if you know what I mean. Of course you do.

I’d like to have some Caesar Salad 🙂 I’ve never tasted anything caesar.

    Have a nice day! 🙂

    • jannatwrites February 17, 2011 / 6:41 AM

I’m glad you stopped by, Desi! I don’t mind at all if you subscribe…I hope you enjoy my posts.

Caesar salad is yummy, but it’s not fun to make 😉

      • Desi February 20, 2011 / 3:04 AM

Well, in case you might feel a bit awkward having a stranger in your subscription list, I hope it might be a little comforting for you to know I’m a Malaysian 20-year-old female who goes by the name Desi “daisy”.. 🙂 So you can see I’m not that paranoid about giving out some personal details 🙂

        • jannatwrites February 20, 2011 / 7:24 PM

I don’t feel awkward at all for your subscription. Nearly everyone that stops by my blog are people I have met online, and many are writers also. It’s always nice to know something about the people that visit, so I do thank you for offering up some details about yourself 🙂 I hope you enjoy my posts!

  14. Carol Ann Hoel March 29, 2011 / 8:24 AM

Your “About Me” sounds like the Janna I’ve come to know. Transparent and candid. Courageous and kind. Blessings to you always…

    • jannatwrites March 29, 2011 / 9:35 PM

You are so nice, Carol. I’m intrigued by the adjectives you used to describe me. It really is true that others see us differently than we see ourselves 🙂

I appreciate you reading my posts and sharing your thoughts on them.

  15. AH April 19, 2011 / 7:45 AM

So did you publish your first novel?

    • jannatwrites April 19, 2011 / 8:48 PM

No, the query process was taking up too much writing time. So, for now, querying is on hold while I work on other writing projects. Someday… 🙂

  16. Blossom Dreams May 7, 2011 / 8:42 AM

    • jannatwrites May 7, 2011 / 8:24 PM

Hi, Chloe! I’m glad you stopped by and left a note (and thanks for subscribing). I do hope at least some of my posts are interesting to you 🙂

    • jannatwrites August 21, 2011 / 8:28 PM

Nice interview! I read the entire post and was shocked (but honored) by #6. I liked the bit about your mom finding your blogs, too. Funny!

I’m glad you continue to read my posts and share your thoughts, Dorcas. The interaction really is what makes it fun 🙂

  17. Epizeuxis October 9, 2011 / 11:14 AM

Hi Janna! I married a gal with a BS in Psych and then she went on and got her Masters….. it only made her Neuroses much worse…. ha ha
I look forward to following your blog. Have a great day! 🙂

    • jannatwrites December 2, 2011 / 9:13 PM

It’s a good thing I never continued my education or I’d have confirmed self-diagnosis diagnosis of my disorders 🙂

Thanks so much for visiting and following, Mark…sorry, I can’t call you ‘Idiot’ 😉

  19. philosophermouseofthehedge January 16, 2012 / 11:50 AM

I always find something enjoyable to read on your blog – and wanted to say “good job”. I think this is why your posts are good: “My goal is to immerse myself in the joy of writing”. thanks

    • jannatwrites January 16, 2012 / 11:30 PM

Thanks for the kind comment, Phil. I write what comes from within, but it’s always nice when someone else finds something entertaining, or meaningful, in my words 🙂

    • jannatwrites January 24, 2012 / 9:33 PM

You’re right, Sandi. I especially like the humorous side of life.

  20. Sandi Ormsby February 11, 2012 / 8:55 AM

    Hey, Janna!

My husband often travels for work and sometimes the family tags along. Occasionally, he’s due out in Arizona (and he has a step sister that lives there) We’re talking about taking the family again soon, curious- what part of AZ are you? Maybe we can meet up…I’ve already met (2) blogger buddies (one in Canada and one locally) and will probably meet Mark, Idiot Speaketh, over the summer. He lives in TX, but is heading out my way!

Let me know if you are ever visiting Southern California! I think our kids are about the same age. My daughter is 6 and my son is 8.

    • JannatWrites February 11, 2012 / 7:54 PM

That’d be fun to meet up. I live in the hot part of AZ 🙂

I sent you an email with my general neck of the woods. Once in a while we do go to Southern CA. When we plan another trip, I’ll let you know!

  21. Carol Ann Hoel February 11, 2012 / 9:24 PM

I found writing my About page difficult. Yours has substance. Mine is very short, perhaps too short. Job well done, Janna…

    • jannatwrites February 12, 2012 / 8:30 PM

Short isn’t always a bad thing, Carol 🙂 Thanks for your nice comment…I appreciate it!

  22. Jonesingafter40 February 18, 2012 / 4:17 PM

Hi Janna! Just wanted to let you know that I am passing the Versatile Blogger Award to you. I appreciate your writing and the comments you leave me. Check out my post today for the details

    • jannatwrites February 20, 2012 / 12:40 AM

Thanks, Jonesing. That was awfully nice of you! I enjoy your blog and comments also 🙂

  23. Debbie February 21, 2012 / 5:10 PM

Hi Janna. Surprise for you on my blog — in case you have nothing to write about! Hey, at least you don’t have to round up seven facts about yourself to share!

    • jannatwrites February 21, 2012 / 5:40 PM

Oh, I love surprises – as long as they’re good…it is good, right? Never mind – I’ll stop by and see for myself 🙂

  24. andy1076 April 10, 2012 / 8:52 AM

I appreciate you taking the time to read my blog 🙂

    • jannatwrites May 11, 2012 / 10:34 PM

I didn’t know this, Mysterystar. Thanks for the enlightenment. I’m always glad to learn something new (and I know so little, it happens nearly every day :))

  28. Tessa June 12, 2012 / 9:54 PM

Now that is an about me that wows you! I really need to do something with mine, so I am “researching.” Good reason to spend a lot of time reading other people’s blogs LOL!

    • jannatwrites June 12, 2012 / 10:40 PM

Research, huh? Perhaps I should call my blog reading that, too so I’ll quit feeling guilty about all the writing I’m not doing 🙂 There are some creative ‘about me’ pages out there…sadly, this is the most neglected page on my blog. Thanks for checking things out – I’ll be curious to see what your research yields!

  29. Maya Panika July 29, 2012 / 12:18 AM

Thanks so much, Denise! It’s good to know that it is inviting. You’re welcome here anytime 🙂

  36. Linda Vernon November 30, 2012 / 10:05 AM

I like that your goal is to immerse yourself in writing in the here and now! That’s what I wake up excited about!! And there are no failed novel attempts. Everything you write is simply the next stepping stone on the journey! That’s what I keep telling myself anyway! Happy Writing! – Linda 😀

    • jannatwrites November 30, 2012 / 9:34 PM

It’s much more fun to write when I’m not heaping on pressure to get published NOW. Still believe it’ll happen if it’s supposed to. I agree with your stepping stone philosophy- seems reasonable 🙂 Thanks for checking out my ‘about’ page, Linda!

      • Linda Vernon December 4, 2012 / 9:32 AM

My pleasure Jannat, I enjoyed your about page! 😀
And I find writing for publication to be a lot like dieting. As soon as I tell myself I’m going on a diet, I immediately get hungry! Same with getting published. If I tell myself I’m going to write something to submit to a publication, my mind goes blank. LOL!

        • jannatwrites December 5, 2012 / 12:14 AM

Ha, me too! Publication is to ideas what Kryptonite is to Superman.

No matter what, writing is just fun 🙂

  37. fleybovich December 3, 2012 / 9:39 AM

So your about me page is really in depth. You’re all about writing, and I like that. The spiritual journey is what, hopefully, we all are on. keep it real.

    • jannatwrites December 5, 2012 / 12:16 AM

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my About page, Fleybovich. Sometimes day-to-day life doesn’t leave much time to think about my spiritual self…the purpose of the spiritual journey posts is to make me stop and pay attention to that aspect of my life.

      • fleybovich December 5, 2012 / 6:32 AM

I totally, agree Janna. I try to set some time aside as well, although sometimes, I feel like I am too busy for that. So i tend to just stay spiritual and pray on the fly, say on the train ride to work, or when I am walking places, not being distracted by the internet or phone, if you know what I mean 🙂

  38. Tom Elias December 19, 2012 / 4:33 AM

I was about to start commenting on all the great short works you have here, and realized it would be far more efficient to just come here and tell you you’re an amazing writer.

    • jannatwrites December 19, 2012 / 9:57 PM

Thanks, Tom! I’m glad you found some posts that you enjoyed. I appreciate you stopping by 🙂

  39. Sean O'Connor December 21, 2012 / 7:51 PM

    Jannat,
I’ve enjoyed the writings I have read so far. I enjoy seeing how people write and express themselves in ways that show an openness into their world. I find it interesting going to the mall and watching society go about its business. There are so many facets that can be seen. I grew up in the big hot spot of AZ and sometimes miss the surreal that is there in the desert. Thank you for taking the time to show us this website.

    • jannatwrites December 21, 2012 / 11:02 PM

Thanks so much for reading and leaving your comment, Sean. I did a double-take when I saw the name because I knew someone with your name. Almost made me wonder if you were that person, but the world isn’t quite that small 🙂

      • Sean O'Connor December 22, 2012 / 2:42 PM

I was reading your birthday blog from awhile ago. Maybe I do know you and yes it very well could be a small world. This is really weird by the way.

  40. Nickillustrates January 8, 2013 / 4:15 AM

I am not to good with the putting words together and making them sound right thing, but I enjoy reading about those who are:)

    • jannatwrites January 8, 2013 / 10:35 PM

Thanks so much for stopping by, Nick. I’m guessing your name that your creative outlet might be images….I’ll have to check your site out and see 🙂

    • jannatwrites March 10, 2013 / 5:17 PM

Thanks, Maxima – I appreciate you stopping by!

  41. tatumh2012 March 13, 2013 / 7:22 AM

I have a bland named blog too…I was tired of trying to find a creative title…when I was a kid and I first started writing poetry, I never titled my poems – sometimes I just can’t capture what I want in the title. Anyway, love your about page and I feel the same way – God willing, folks will read and publishers will publish!

    • jannatwrites March 13, 2013 / 11:54 PM

Titles are the worst, Tatumh2012. It’s kind of comforting to know that I’m not the only one with title issues. I can’t tell you how many times I write something and it takes me longer to think of a title. Ugh! Thanks for stopping by. I’ll check out your blog tomorrow 🙂

  42. mairzeebp March 25, 2013 / 10:00 AM

Hi Janna, I just nominated you for the Liebster blog award. Feel free to do with it what you may as I know that the awards thing can sometimes be a bit tedious with the rules and all of the writing…No pressure! I hope all is well :). http://wp.me/pVHMq-xE

    • jannatwrites March 26, 2013 / 10:00 AM

Thanks for thinking of me, Mairzeebp! I love reading the awards answers, so I’ll check out your post soon 🙂

    • jannatwrites April 13, 2013 / 9:29 PM

Thanks for the invite, Yerpirate. I’ll have to check that out. I’ve seen haibuns done a few times but I’m still not sure my brain can work like that 🙂

      • TheImaginator April 24, 2013 / 11:27 PM

        You’re welcome 🙂

    • Scriptor Obscura May 24, 2013 / 9:37 AM

      I second that.

  43. galuri85 June 4, 2013 / 10:39 AM

  44. dcardiff June 8, 2013 / 10:08 AM

Hi Janna, I clicked the ‘like’ button — even though I haven’t seen you — because, already I think I like you (I’ll read more of your posts before making a final decision). I also like semi-colons; the most misunderstood punctuation mark.

    Cheers,
    Dennis

    • jannatwrites June 8, 2013 / 11:11 PM

Great – another person that likes semi-colons! I still like them, but try not to let them take over my writing 🙂 Thanks so much for visiting my ‘About’ page and leaving your comment. I hope you do enjoy some of what you read here, Dcardiff.

  45. Professor VJ Duke June 22, 2013 / 12:48 PM

The bio didn’t seem too long at all. Was very enjoyable and went very fast!

    • jannatwrites June 23, 2013 / 12:43 AM

Thank you, Professor! Too many comments like this and I might (falsely) believe I’m more interesting than I really am 🙂 I appreciate you stopping by and taking time to comment.

  46. Simple Northern Life June 23, 2013 / 6:29 AM

I am so happy to have found you and your site…I am heading into the forties, I put my writing on hold and recently picked up a pen and started writing: novel and memoir ideas I also enjoy writing in my journal. I’ve always be a reader and writer, but when you attend college suddenly reading and writing became a chore.

My family is awesome, Mitch and Becca are gracious enough to let me treat blogging like the job of my dream!

Just a few words, I will be exploring your site some more and look forward to more posts. Have a great Sunday!

    A. Zych

    • jannatwrites June 24, 2013 / 12:45 PM

I’m so glad you stopped by and took a moment to share your comment, Simple Northern Life! It seems many of us get delayed on writing for one reason or another. I’m glad you were able to start writing again and the words are flowing.

I will visit your site this week (I’m still catching up from my vacation :))

  47. radiosatellite.wordpress.com August 4, 2013 / 3:00 AM

    Hi Janna! love your Haikus!

  49. susmysebastian September 14, 2013 / 1:51 AM

so finally here is one- i thought I’m the only person who is addicted to the usage of semi colons and exclamation marks!

    • jannatwrites September 14, 2013 / 11:32 PM

There aren’t many of us around, Susmy! I’m glad you like the semi-colons too 🙂

    • jannatwrites October 7, 2013 / 7:45 AM

Thanks, Scriptor – I’ll check it out! I clicked over and was going to subscribe, but saw I had to use Facebook or set up a new account for that site. Since I don’t have FB, I’ll have to read more about this to see if I want another account to remember a log in for 🙂

It looks like I can just read, though – I saw you have a five page piece up now. I’ll be back tomorrow night, when I’ll have more time! -Janna

  53. lifeisscabrous March 8, 2014 / 11:06 PM

Reading this fit into a great flow. I felt close to what I was reading, though no commonarity (-although not a real word, I speak my own words and this is the real word for me) between the two of us, besides loving animals. I am very new on here so I know not much. I’m trying to click in more. And I am going to continue to read your blog and pages.

    • jannatwrites March 9, 2014 / 10:12 PM

I’m glad you stopped by! Always nice to “meet” another animal lover 🙂

  54. Dilip March 21, 2014 / 8:46 AM

Enjoyed my visit. You have a lovely blog! Thank you and with best wishes 🙂

  55. AZ Gringa April 7, 2014 / 3:53 PM

    After reading this:

“I overuse commas, love ellipses, adore parentheses, and am a huge supporter of semi-colons (That’s right- I even wrote a post about them!)”

How could I not follow you?

    • jannatwrites April 7, 2014 / 7:11 PM

Thanks, AZG! Are you a fan of semi-colons, too? Please say you are; that would be so cool 🙂

P.S. Thanks for the follow- glad to “meet” another AZ person!

      • AZ Gringa April 7, 2014 / 8:34 PM

I love semi-colons; they are my favorite form of punctuation. I often overuse commas, but they’re so cute and adorable, in an unassuming way, that it’s hard to resist. I also love ellipses… (What’s not to love?)

        • jannatwrites April 7, 2014 / 9:02 PM

You’re my kind of gal! I harbor excess commas and use ellipses frequently as well. So glad I made your acquanitance today!

        • AZ Gringa April 7, 2014 / 9:03 PM

          Same here. 🙂

  56. Kay April 8, 2014 / 4:01 PM

I love that your animals allow you to live with them AND pay the bills! They really do always have our best interests in mind.

    • jannatwrites April 8, 2014 / 9:49 PM

Yes, the animals are thoughtful that way 🙂 Tonight, I even lost my seat on the couch to one of my cats.

  57. Imelda May 27, 2014 / 7:21 PM

Funny! I have been a regular in this place but I have not liked your page yet.

Janna, I am inviting you to participate in a virtual blog tour. I was invited by Laurie Kolp, http://lkharris-kolp.blogspot.com/2014/05/virtual-blog-tour.html, in this event. I will make a post that features the writer friends I admire and answers some writer questions. Then, my honorees will make a corresponding post. I do not know your private email so I am leaving my request here. In case you are interested, just leave me a note in my blog or in my email [edit: removed email address ] for the details.

    Thank you very much.

    • jannatwrites May 29, 2014 / 8:19 AM

I’m glad you ‘liked’ it, Imelda! It occurs to me that I need to update it a bit. I’ll add that to my list. Thanks for the invite – I replied to you via email (I hope you don’t mind, but I did remove your email address before approving your comment so you didn’t get any spam-type email.)

  58. Emilio Pasquale June 3, 2014 / 8:14 AM

When I first started my blog I labeled myself as a photographer because that’s how I wanted others to perceive me. But I changed that within the first week as I received a comment that said you should not call yourself a photographer if you do not make money off it. But is that the true definition of a photographer, or a writer, or any artist? That you must have income from it? I now am re-thinking that definition since reading some of your posts and this About Me page. You ARE a writer. I was sucked in by that first Haiku (maybe sucked is the wrong word. I am NOT a writer!) I would love it if one day you took one of my photos and wrote a story inspired by it. And I’ve never made that offer to anyone else!

    • jannatwrites June 3, 2014 / 8:34 AM

I don’t agree with the commenter – there are different levels of photographers (amateur, professional and those in between.) Sounds like an elitist to me, haha! Well, if income is the determining factor, then I’m not a writer, either. I’ve never earned a dime. I’m starting to look into it, however, I’m a bit lazy when it comes to that aspect because it isn’t ‘fun’… writing is 🙂 Thanks so much for reading and sharing your comment/experience, Emilio!

Oh, and I love the idea of writing a story inspired by a photo of yours and would be honored to do so. I normally only post my photos so I don’t step on any copyright toes, but if I have your permission to post the photo (with credit to you, of course) I’d love to give it a try! To email the photo to me, you can click the “click here” link in the last line of my ‘about me’ and it will bring up your email client with my address filled in (I don’t display it on the page to discourage spammmers.)

      • Emilio Pasquale June 3, 2014 / 8:40 AM

Wow! OK, I’m in. You write it and I’ll re-blog it! Let me know if you want to pick one or if I should pick from an un-posted photo. This is exciting!

        • jannatwrites June 3, 2014 / 8:41 AM

Haha, let’s make this a challenge – you pick it! Oh boy, no pressure here 😛

  59. mbarkersimpson June 5, 2014 / 3:17 PM

    Hi Janna

I just wanted to let you know I’ve nominated you for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award. I love your short works of fiction, and always look forward to reading your contributions.

    • jannatwrites June 6, 2014 / 8:33 AM

Wow, thanks so much, Melissa! I appreciate you reading my writing and nominating me. I’m taking a short break from prompts, but expect I’ll be back in a week or two 🙂

      • mbarkersimpson June 6, 2014 / 9:00 AM

You’re welcome. It’s always a pleasure to share those bloggers who inspire and make a difference. I’ll look forward to reading more of your work when you ‘get back’ from your break 🙂

        • jannatwrites June 9, 2014 / 3:33 PM

Thanks so much, Melissa. Apparently I can’t handle too much of a break because I couldn’t resist Speakeasy this week 🙂

        • mbarkersimpson June 9, 2014 / 10:52 PM

Great 🙂 I can’t wait to read it!

  60. mbarkersimpson June 19, 2014 / 8:56 AM

Hi Janna. I was asked to participate in a blog tour and have nominated you as a participant (it’s about the writing process and current projects). There are four questions, which you will find on my blog, if you would like to take part (I don’t know what your schedule is like).
    Thanks
    Mel

  61. thepaperbutterfly June 23, 2014 / 1:46 PM

I faved your blog the other day because you are a great writer! I was very impressed with your stories. I shall be leaving a few comments soon 🙂

    • jannatwrites June 23, 2014 / 2:40 PM

Thank you so much – I appreciate you reading and am pleased that you liked it enough to subscribe 🙂 Looking forward to reading more of your blog as well!

  62. Celine Jeanjean July 9, 2014 / 3:42 AM

Always great to meet a fellow parentheses lover! Really happy to have found your blog, I’ve enjoyed your piece from the SpeakEasy and looking forward to reading more. Always nice to meet a fellow writer! 🙂

    • jannatwrites July 9, 2014 / 11:45 PM

Thanks, Celine! I love all punctuation, right or wrong 🙂 I’m glad to ‘meet’ you as well. My writing computer isn’t functioning right now, so I don’t have a lot of online time, but I do plan to visit your site and read beyond your Speakeasy story.

    • jannatwrites July 23, 2014 / 4:50 PM

That is so nice of you, TPB – thanks for thinking of me 🙂

  63. Jennifer Writings of a Mrs September 3, 2014 / 4:59 PM

    Long yes, but well done!
We seem to have similar lives, including age, I will be 40 in November….oh my. I’m trying to prepare for it now!
I also share a love and passion for poetry that blossomed once I started my blog, it’s lyrical and free flowing since I’m a rebel towards any kind of structure!
I look forward to reading more of your blog.
    Cheers and continued success!

    • jannatwrites September 4, 2014 / 11:07 PM

Forty wasn’t as big of a deal as I thought it would be when I was 39 (of course, I’m 41 now!) Don’t even talk to me about 50, though 🙂 I read some of your poetry, and it is lovely. I appreciate you stopping by and I do hope you visit again in the future!

  64. TyCobbsTeeth October 13, 2014 / 5:45 AM

Meh –forty is just a number. It only matters how you feel.
    Great site Jannat.

True enough, Ty! Sometimes I feel way older, some days younger… so I guess it all evens out 🙂

  65. Equipping The Saints December 24, 2014 / 6:42 AM

I love semi-colons too; they have great value in effective writing.

    • jannatwrites December 27, 2014 / 2:54 PM

Hehe, I like what you did there with that perfectly placed semi-colon 🙂

      • Equipping The Saints December 27, 2014 / 4:46 PM

A friend who was an anthropology major (not working in his field) clued me in on the semi-colon. Not even my English teachers in school explained semi-colons. I was in honors English in 11th grade, and, “not a word.” One of my blogging friends was intimidated by the thought of her adding such punctuation to her sentences. I must say that you have mounted a much needed horse of proper sentence structure. And, may I add a word of added encourgement to you? God uses semi-colons! Check out the various translations. Of course I am writing tremendous voice inflection… You’ve really got me going now. I could go on for hours, but not tonight. May our Lord Jesus richly bless you.

        • jannatwrites December 31, 2014 / 12:15 AM

Haha, I’m glad you are so passionate in your pronouncement of the importance of the semi-colon, Equipping the Saints! I do think it’s an often misunderstood punctuation, but really, it’s quite friendly and not intimidating once introductions have been made 🙂

        • Equipping The Saints December 31, 2014 / 8:37 AM

A college English professor used to put “IRP” on the things that I would write. “Improper Reference to Pronoun” was my sin. I have learned that a semi-colon takes care of that problem. My anthropology friend said that a semi-colon is used to provide a pause, but not a total break of thought. So, when I use a semi-colon, I am pausing, keeping the subject intact, and connecting two the thoughts that come before and after the semi-colon. In today’s world of composing letters, etc,, it is becoming more and more common to put three dots in the place where a semi-colon should be found. I will now have to nominate you for the highest award in the blog world, which is “Queen Of The Semis.” (I hope that all of this made sense to you). Please have a ablessed day.

        • jannatwrites January 1, 2015 / 12:51 AM

Semi-colons do come in handy! I am guilty of using ellipses, too. Although, I tend to use the ellipsis more in informal writing, like emails. I am extremely honored to be Queen of the Semis… I shall proclaim a special day for them to be honored. Never mind; they should be celebrated every day 🙂

        • Equipping The Saints January 1, 2015 / 6:03 AM

You are so very intuitive of such trendy and key events as “National Semi-Colon Day.” I can be your compaign manager in all events of that special day. By the way, you are a “fun blogger.” Please have a very blessed day.

        • jannatwrites January 2, 2015 / 7:56 PM

Haha, thanks, ETS 🙂 I try to have fun with the blogging.

        • Equipping The Saints January 2, 2015 / 8:07 PM

Blogging is much more fun than bobsledding, and not nearly as “hard on the head.” Thanks for your thoughts.

        • jannatwrites January 14, 2015 / 9:56 PM

Haha, yes – less potential for injury blogging 🙂

        • Equipping The Saints January 14, 2015 / 10:55 PM

It’s good to hear from you again. Please keep in touch.

  66. Equipping The Saints December 29, 2014 / 12:19 AM

Your story stays in my mind. Please allow me to add a few ideas that may give some fresh ideas to you. I was a resident of Phoenix in the early 1970s. In the fall of 76, I moved to St. Louis. Wow! What a nice autumn after leaving a hot summer. Then! Winter rolled in. Your desire to write is something that many people have within them. Let me encourage you to continue writing; God will guide you. I once met a man who was a field supervisor for BP. He was a resident of England, and had been blessed with a British education. Our discussion led to writing. He said that we should write something everyday. That allows us to practice the gift that God has given us. I had always wanted to write creatively. Now, i am able to do so. I can’t go into great detail because of the insecurity of the internet. My writings are very serious, as they relate to the times that surround us. I don’t want someone to use my posts as a tool against me. God knows your heart; He will lead you. One of my blog friends is also an author. She is a Christian, who writes, but does not write what we would describe as being “Christian.” However, her mind of Christ enters into her posts, and other articles.Pray for God to lead you and to provide all of your needs. You will be surprised at the way that God answers your prayers. Revelation 2:8 has sound encouragement for all believers in Christ. It says, “…I have set before you an open door, and no man can shut it.” God has a plan for you. Consider Jeremiah 1:5 and Galatians 1:15. If you have not already done so, please watch the movie, “Facing The Giants.” The movie talks about the plans that we should make in advance of God’s blessings that will come upon us. You tube has a full length of the movie. By the way, all of the people in Facing The Giants are volunteers. Please know that I will keep you in my prayers. Your comment this evening to my post was an answer to my prayer. Consider Jeremiah 18:1-6. It relates to the direction that God has for us, and maintains for us. It told me about something that was changing in my ministry abot fifteen years ago. May our Lord Jesus richly bless you.

    • jannatwrites December 31, 2014 / 12:20 AM

I’m glad my story has tuck with you, Equipping the Saints. Your encouraging comment is timely, as I’m going through a lot personally at the moment and have been struggling with words. I want to be writing stories, but right now, poetry is happening (this is how I sort through my thoughts and emotions, but there’s not much I can publish on my blog.) I have been dedicating more time to prayers lately because I’m at a loss. I’m also praying that my eyes remain open and able to see guidance in whatever form it appears. Thanks again for your thoughtful comment and for your prayers.

I enjoyed your ‘about ‘ page, Janna. I’m also guilty with the overuse of commas. 😳 Thanks for visiting my blog today. Sylvia

Don’t tell the semi-colons, but I think I have an affinity for commas as well 🙂 It was my pleasure to read your blog. I’m hoping to get by there more often
