Vista View

Standing on the edge,

Breath taken by the vastness-

Imperfect beauty.

Mogollon Rim
Mogollon Rim

Several weeks ago, we traveled to the Mogollon Rim and stopped at multiple vantage points to admire the view.  At this particular spot, my attention was torn between the expanse of tree-filled land and the seemingly dead (but still standing) tree.  I took a few close ups of the tree, but then decided I liked how it contrasted the horizon.  I seem to be drawn to nature’s imperfections.  How about you?  In nature, what makes you stop and give a second look?

I was inspired to write this short haiku because I haven’t written poetry in a while, and my thoughts are already on our weekend camping trip with the Boy Scouts.  It’s a family camp out, but we’ll also be helping an older scout with his Eagle project. I don’t know what they will have us doing, but I’m pretty sure it won’t involve reading blogs or writing stories on my laptop.  For this reason, I won’t post anything else until Monday.  (I’m not even going to look at Friday’s Trifecta prompt because I don’t think I can resist the temptation to write it!)

Who knows, maybe I can catch up a bit on blog reading in the meantime.  (I won’t hold my breath on that…) I hope you have a peaceful Thursday and a beautiful weekend!

There is much beauty (and wisdom) in imperfection.

    • jannatwrites November 7, 2013 / 10:54 PM

Yes, wisdom, too 🙂 Thanks for stopping by, Suzicate!

Thanks, J.! I think it will be fun, but a bit cold 🙂

Enjoy your break, Janna! By the way, I love the view your “imperfect” and “dead” tree has — it’s expansive and glorious!

    • jannatwrites November 7, 2013 / 10:55 PM

Thanks, Debbie! I have a lot of ‘dead’ tree photos…I’ll probably post a few more eventually.

Love the poem and the pic.
Have fun on your camping trip . . . bring your camera!

    • jannatwrites November 7, 2013 / 10:57 PM

I just put a reminder in phone about the camera 🙂 Glad you stopped by and reminded me, Nancy!

Beauty and perfection or imperfection – all in the eyes of the beholder, I reckon.

    Enjoy your weekend camp 🙂

    • jannatwrites November 7, 2013 / 11:16 PM

True, it’s all subjective, Eric! I’m looking forward to the camp out, but will dress warmly… we don’t usually camp this late in the year.

Ah…imperfection, some would say that the little imperfections are necessary for perfection! Lovely post, I like that photo and your haiku is good!

    • jannatwrites November 8, 2013 / 8:52 AM

Thanks so much for reading, Bastet! I’m glad you enjoyed reading this 🙂

Janna I love this tree, it has so many hands and each one seems to be saying something different. I totally agree with your comments. We are often encouraged to see beauty in perfection, but in my opinion perfection does not fit in with reality – it is something we continually strive for but never attain. That is why it is so great when someone can see the beauty in the imperfect, and even the ugly and broken – true acceptance of someone(thing) as they are.

    • jannatwrites November 8, 2013 / 8:56 AM

I’m glad I’m not the only one who was drawn to that tree, Eleni. And you went where I was thinking – the finding beauty in the imperfect in nature also applies to the characteristics of people. It makes me sad when we chase perfection and sacrifice what makes us unique. Here’s to imperfect beauty 🙂

Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to share your thoughts/reaction!

A breath taking photo and poem that fits it well. Thanks.

I appreciate you reading, Allen. As I was looking through my photos for inspiration, this one grabbed my attention first. I’m glad you liked it!

I like photographing fly agaric toadstools. The Spouse hates mushroom season because I get up close and personal with them, which often involves mud and stuff …

That’s a stunning view you got there, and the tree one real character. Great shot!

    • jannatwrites November 10, 2013 / 11:10 PM

Mushrooms are quite interesting, but I guess mud tracked in the house isn’t so pleasant 🙂 Thanks for stopping by, Argus- I’m glad you found the tree interesting, too!

Hey, that’s beautiful Jannat and it’s been long haven’t been on a nature trek:)

    • jannatwrites November 10, 2013 / 11:11 PM

I’m glad you had a chance to stop by, Vishal. I know you’ve been busy lately!

  10. Imelda November 11, 2013 / 11:19 AM

I hope you had a great time. 🙂

I like your haiku. Aren’t we all imperfect beauties? 🙂

    • jannatwrites November 11, 2013 / 8:28 PM

We are all imperfect but beautiful – great observation, Imelda!

It was a great weekend – we all worked hard but the Eagle project was completed (yay!) I’m a little stiff today, but it’s a small price to pay. I’ll be out jogging tomorrow morning whether my legs want to or not 🙂

What a lovely view. I like the tree, it adds a lot to the photo. Some trees are leafy, and others tell of the stark reality that is life. Enjoy your weekend!

    • jannatwrites November 18, 2013 / 12:51 AM

I’m glad you liked the photo, Patti! The weekend was full of hard work, but still fun 🙂

It’s amazing how much more you can see of what’s around you once you get higher than the terra firma. My OH and I live in an apartment on an upper wall of a high rise apartment building where the view is superb. So here’s my Haiku response for your prompt this week

    Vista View

    Mountaintop on high
Views of miles away are seen
    On ground not so far

    • jannatwrites July 5, 2014 / 12:46 AM

I do like the vantage point of an unobstructed horizon.I’m glad you have a great view where you live. Thanks for sharing your haiku, Robin!
