I took this photo several weeks ago and it has been sitting in a folder on my computer (with many other friends) waiting for the right words to go with it. As soon as we crested the hill, I startled my husband by hollering, “stop!” He did, almost sending us through the windshield. I stood in front of the truck and snapped this photo. I walked away with an illustration of peace to remind me of it when I can’t seem to find it, and the knowledge that my husband still loves me: he had the chance to run me over and didn’t.
This is my response to Trifecta’s weekend challenge. In their words, here is the challenge:
Your challenge this weekend is to give us 33 words about anything you want. Your piece must include at least one hyphenated compound modifier.
If you want to read some other responses to the challenge, be sure to check out Trifecta’s site by clicking on the tricycle picture above. Have a peaceful weekend, and keep one eye open for “Life”, okay? 😀
Well-painted picture of life! And the photo is gorgeous, I need to go there now!
And you even used a compound modifier in your comment – that’s impressive, Renee 🙂 Thanks for reading!
Beautiful, and for me, hopeful. I love it.
I’m glad the ‘hope’ came through, Jennifer. I see hope in life as well. Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts!
So true! Yet we keep on getting back up and trying again. Great job!
Of course – we can’t just give up, can we, Tina! I appreciate you stopping by 🙂
Stunner
Thanks so much, Ruby!
it is a well coordinated attempt to make us question our very existence isn’t it?
I love when you write like this, the stutter of our questioning never so evident.
Gave me lots to think about.
There is a fair amount of questioning in life. I often wonder what my purpose is and if I’m anywhere in the ballpark of where I need to be. I appreciate you stopping by and adding your thoughts on the poem, Kir!
You really hit the nail on the head with this one, Janna.
Love the photo too.
Thanks, Nancy! It’s good to know that others see life’s journey in a similar way.
Beautiful poem. I felt the tension building to an arc and then winding down to a sweet finish. Yes, I agree that these words were meant for that photo. You are truly talented, Janna. Blessings to you…
I’m glad you like the pairing of the poem and the photo, Carol Ann. I appreciate you taking time to read it and share your thoughts. And thanks for the kind compliment, as well 🙂
Ah, what a lovely view! No wonder you keep this one around. Good choice!!
Thanks, Debbie. Too bad I don’t have sound to go with the photo – the breeze blowing through the trees made a great soundtrack for peace 🙂
“Too bad I don’t have sound to go with the photo…a great soundtrack for peace.”
Re: the sound: You might be able to get it here. 😉

Enjoy. 🙂
Thanks, Scriptor…I’ll have to check that out 🙂
The busier we become, the more intense our search for peace. Your eloquent words say it all. And the photo? Perfect for your words, which speak to hope through it all. Excellent work. Thanks for sharing.
I agree with your observation about our search for peace, Diane. Thank you for reading and adding your comment on it!
A most excellent obedient husband!
Sometimes he does listen, Widdershins 🙂
Oh…just lovely!
Thanks, Lori!
Your poem is the reason I started writing. Nice reflection.
I appreciate you stopping by to read it, Ann.
Beautifully done…amazing prose of reality of life!
Thanks, Maggie…I’m glad you enjoyed the poem 🙂
I just love this and that picture really looks like ‘life’s road’. Beautiful 😉
Thanks so much, Dianne – I’m glad you liked them!
great imagery in this post Janna! You did a great job here 🙂
I appreciate the comment/compliment, Lenny. Thanks for stopping by!
Gorgeous photo to go with beautiful poetry. I don’t know what else to say, it’s awesome!
You are very kind, Donetta – thanks for taking time to read it!
You gotta win.
Best one so far, in my opinion.
I appreciate your opinion. Sccriptor. Thank you 🙂
Thanks, Scriptor. I doubt I’ll “win” but it’s a nice thought 🙂
Two observations, Janna dear,
The “Path Paved with Peace” image and words are lovely. Reminded me of such a path I drove through several times in Mount Keira, Australia. Should have taken some pcitures.
My next observation,
“…he had the chance to run me over and didn’t…”
Yup, hubby loves you alright 🙂
Haha! In retrospect, I realize I probably shouldn’t step in front of the vehicle. One day, he might not be able to resist the temptation 🙂 Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts on my post, Eric. I enjoyed your comment!
This is really good Janna 🙂
Thanks so much for reading, Sam!
Wonderful description of the trials and complications of life. Great pic too!
Thanks, Lumdog! I’m an amateur at photography, so it’s nice to know when others like a photo. Thanks for reading my ‘life’ poem!
Beautiful piece Janna! Love the line: “Life is a well-coordinated attempt to knock us over.” And the last line is wonderful. Well done!
Thanks so much for reading and taking the time to point out what you liked, Suzanne. I appreciate it 🙂
I love how you were able to capture complexity so poetically. 😀 How nice this was to read!
Thanks, Linda! This was one of those weeks where the words pretty much fell into place on their own. Love it when that happens 🙂
Beautiful words.
Thanks so much for reading, Lena!
No it doesn’t need a caption. Lovely area! I am glad he didn’t run you over. I would miss you and your writings. LOL!
You’re funny, Tessa! I’m glad he didn’t run me over as well 🙂
How very beautiful!
Thanks, Atreyee!
🙂
A beautiful reminder.
I love the picture and your accompanying narrative as well!
I appreciate you reading it, Kelly 🙂
Well thought out thoughts. Nicely said.
I’m glad you liked the poem, Barbara. Thanks for taking time to read it!
What a lovely poem (:
Thanks, Draug 🙂
Form and function – beautiful.
Thanks, RogRites…I appreciate you stopping by 🙂
Gorgeous words and image.
Thanks, Tara!
Life in 33 words – brilliant.
I’m glad you liked the poem, Mike. Life is so much more than 33 words, but it’s a start 🙂
I love how you play with words… Treasure(d) moments of soul-healing peace… 🙂
Thanks, September Dreams. I surprised myself with the ending…I admire others’ wordplay but have never managed to do it until this one 🙂
I love your photo and your words-and I think about what you’ve said here quite a lot. I love to go to the forest (here in Washington state) and try to find some balance among the tall trees:)
I thought this was exquisite!
Something about nature offers a clarity that’s hard to find anywhere else, Valerie. I’d love to visit Washington state. I lived there when I was young and only remember it in pictures.
No it does not need a caption. Peace will do. It’s that feeling of joy and freedom from the cares of the world when you come across a scene like this… good one! I was impressed with the structure of your words.
Thanks for reading and for sharing your kind words, Ted!
Pretty, and prettily-formatted, poem.
Thanks, Kymm. I appreciate you reading it!
Pretty stuff! You managed to make this completely serene feeling despite talking about life’s attempts to knock us down.
I’m glad the serenity came through – those moments of peace are what makes the struggles worth it, Brian 🙂
neat poem packs a punch
Thanks, Steven. I’m glad you enjoyed the poem 🙂
Absolutely beautiful and love the movement in your format.
Thanks so much, Anja. I kind hoped the format felt like the zig and zag of life 🙂
I really like this, especially the lines: ‘Life is a well-coordinated Attempt to knock us over.’ I’m going to keep searching for those treasured moments.
Please do keep searching, Sarah Ann – they are everywhere just waiting to be found 🙂
The text works so well with the image!
Thanks, Allen. I love it when a picture and a poem were just meant to be together 🙂
Well-said! When life throws us curve balls, we catch ’em with mitts. When life gives us that beautiful roadway, we snap a picture and keep it in our memory. Great response!
Your comment made me smile, Sandra. Where did I put my mitt?….
Thanks for stopping by to read it!
Haha, the chance to run you over, but didn’t. Must be LOVE. 🙂
🙂 Yes, he must love me…either that, or he’s an expert at missed opportunities 🙂
what a lovely poem about overwhelm. I actually feel better about being overwhelmed having read this.
What a nice comment, Patty. I’m glad the poem makes you feel better!
