Millicent’s bet:
First to swings, wins.
He yanked her ponytail
And ran.
She skunked him.
Couldn’t swallow his pride,
Had to weasel out of the kiss instead:
Seven was too young for marriage.

I tried to get in the mind of a seven-year-old boy for the Trifecta weekend challenge, which is community-judged this week. Poor guy never considered he might lose (to a girl)!
If you like it, please visit the Trifecta site on Sunday (after 8PM Eastern time) to vote. If you don’t like my entry, you should still visit the site to vote because I promise you’ll find something you do like among the entries The writing prompt given is:
This weekend we want you to write a 33-word response using the
name of an animal as a verb. Some examples are: to dog, to snake, to bear,
to duck. . .you get the idea. Write about anything you want and use whichever
verb tense you need, but give us an animal as a verb in there somewhere.
In honor of Trifecta, I used three animals. I’m either an over-achiever or a suck-up…you call it 🙂
Oh, I almost forgot – if you want to write your own entry, check out the Trifecta site by clicking on the Tricycle picture to see full instructions. Happy writing (and reading!)
Suck up, yeah I vote suck up LOL! Boy you are ambitious, 3 animals. Good job Janna!
Well, I figured promising chocolates for votes would be going too far 🙂 Thanks for reading, Tessa!
Great job! I’m in awe of your 3 animals!
Thanks, Jeanna. I’m glad you liked the little zoo 🙂
oh lovely! This is so heartwarming. Very well done, Janna. 🙂
Thanks, Imelda! It wasn’t long ago that I asked my six-year-old what he thought marriage was and he told me it was kissing. I thought it was cute, so I had to use it 🙂
Sweet story! Light and fun – appropriate to the subject matter. Good job
Thanks for reading, Phil! Definitely wanted to lighten it up for the weekend 🙂
A great job! Your post are always nice and amusing.
I’m glad you continue to read and share your thoughts on my posts, Newwhitebear. Have a beautiful weekend 🙂
Aw – cute. Great post once again.
Thanks so much for reading, Ruby! I can’t wait to see what everyone else has done 🙂
Clever and multiple takes on the prompt. This was a fun one!
Thank you, Lumdog – I’m glad you liked reading this one!
Good use of the prompt — weasel and skunk are appropriate animals for seven year olds. 🙂
Ha! I didn’t think about that, but you’re right…those are seven-year-old verbs 🙂 Thanks for reading, Annette!
This is so visual!
Thanks, Teala. I appreciate you stopping by to read it.
Well done, Janna. You have my vote . . . and I’ll do my best to remember to swing by and actually register it. 😉
Aw, thanks, Nancy! I’m glad I got your vote even if you don’t remember to register it 🙂 (I’ll stick with it being the thought that counts.)
Oh, very nice. Well done.
Thanks, Kelly! I’m glad you stopped by.
Very well done! With multiple prompt responses, yay!
Thanks, Sandra! I appreciate you stopping by to read it. I’m so behind on reading, I missed your Trifecta entry for last week…I’m checking it out tonight!
This was sweet and not at all forced, Janna. Man, I was tempted to put in extra animals, but there are two in one and one in the second… Nice write! Peace, Amy

Thanks so much for your comment, Amy. I had hoped it flowed naturally. (I had my younger son in mind when I wrote it.) I can’t wait to see what you came up with 🙂
Very sweet! Loved it 😀
Thanks for reading, Dianne. I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Hee hee! You just took over first place on my list as I read. Well done Janna!!
Thanks, Brenda. I’m glad you liked it. I hope it stays on your list after you read another couple entries 😆
Nice. I must be dense but I only saw two animals in your Trifecta unless ponytail is the third.
Well, Patty, you probably found weasel and skunked…the third one was swallow (like the bird.) That last one was sneaky. Thanks for reading 🙂
Wait a minute… isn’t marriage solely about kissing? What the heck did I say “I do” to anyways?
I know, right? I’m not sure I knew everything I signed up for, but I learned to adapt! Thanks for reading, Marie. Your comment made me smile 🙂
I’m competing against you this week I guess, but you’re getting my vote.
Great story, great use of the prompt!
Thanks, El Guapo. Your comment is a huge compliment. I’m glad you enjoyed the story and the animals 🙂
Skunked is a perfect verb for oh so many things! Seven is definitely too young for kissing but definitely marriage promises. Best to weasel, too! Fun!
Yeah, marriage talk should at least wait until ten 🙂 (only kidding, of course!) Thanks for stopping by to read the story, Gina.
SO cute! Great job!
Thanks so much for reading, R.L.W. 🙂
Good for her! Ha! Enjoyed this little read. 😀
Thanks, Linda! I’m glad you stopped by and enjoyed the story.
Cute story, we’ve all been there! Great job on the menagerie, too.
I love the innocence of young children. Thanks for reading the story, Patti!
This is cute. I like. 🙂
Thanks, Deb…glad you enjoyed 🙂
that was adorable. i sometimes wonder what happened to that innocence of youth.
Yeah, those are good days. It makes me sad to see the innocence of my own children eroding way as they get older. Thanks for reading, Renada!
At 14 he’d give anything for that kiss. Now at 63, I would too.
You crack me up, Carl! Thanks for making me laugh 🙂
Awww. 🙂
Thanks for reading, Michael!
It’s a good thing he didn’t goose her.
Ah, another animal…would’ve been a good fit if I had a few more words 🙂 Glad you stopped by, C.D..
Really like the innocence of the piece and great job with the prompt.
Thanks, Deb. I’m happy you liked this one!
This was adorable! Nice work with three animals. I used two – I should have gone for the trifecta, though.
Thanks, Christine. I’m glad you liked it! I didn’t plan on three animals, but when I realized they were there I had to pay tribute to Trifecta 🙂
How sweet. And you know I’m partial to the multi-animal usage. 🙂
Thanks, ODNT! I think you win when it comes to multi-animal usage, though 🙂
Perfect. Loved “skunked.” Too young to marry indeed. Why do they start all this lovey lovey stuff when they’re so little?! My oldest daughter was six when she first decided she needed a boyfriend. Ugh.
Childhood is scary for parents, Flipside. Last year, in Kindergarten, a neighbor’s daughter proclaimed that she was going to marry our son. Yikes! I had to laugh though, because at the moment it was relayed to me, my five-year-old son was playing a fight scene (with himself) and tripped over his feet. As he lay sprawled out on the ground, I had to agree that my boy was quite the catch 🙂
Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts.
Congratulations on your votes. I like your assumed identity!
Thanks, Viv! I’m so glad I slipped back into my normal identity before I learned to burp the ABCs (a skill my six-year-old wanted to demonstrate for me, but I politely declined to be his audience :))
