Healing By Sunset

Camping Sunset

Healing By Sunset

In a moment, promises splinter

And become nothing to me –

Another’s word, I discover,

Is counterfeit currency.

Shards of those promises broken

Rake across my skin;

Evidence of our affliction

With traits characteristically human.

The wrongs of the day

Settle on the shadowed horizon;

The potential of a clean slate

Illuminated by the setting sun.

City Sunset

    Beautiful. People often let us down . . . nature lifts us back up. Thanks, Janna. 😀

    you wrote down exactly how it feels: “Shards of those promises broken

    Rake across my skin”. Well done

      Thanks, Phil. It felt that bad yesterday as I dealt with the disappointment, but now it sounds a bit overdramatic. See? The sunset ushered in a new day/new frame of mind 🙂

    Well said, beautifully captured!

      Thanks, Debbie. Maybe dramatic, but it wasn’t a good time for me:)

    Healing by sunset as by meaning time or as by meaning source ? Perhaps both.

    • jannatwrites April 6, 2012 / 3:02 PM

      It could be both, Carl. I wrote it with source in mind, but I like that it has a dual meaning. Purely accidental, though 🙂

    Beautiful poem! Tragic imagery countered by optimism in resolution, so nicely partnered with your beautiful pictures! I heart!
