Nature Frees My Soul

This week was a hard one for me.

Between the migraines and news on TV,

I was left heartsick and weary.

I followed with disbelief – in shock,

The story of two little boys lost,

And the father who cast their lot.

Tears fell for loved ones left behind,

Who hold dear memories of two short lives –

Those who can only wonder “Why?”

I cannot judge, nor understand.

I have to trust it’s in God’s hands;

Somehow part of a greater plan.

Do not fret because of evil men…

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him…

In His words (Psalm 37), I am comforted.

Out of despair, shine rays of hope.

There will always be evil, I know –

But its weight cannot rest in my soul.

There is beauty around me,

Waiting for my eyes to see –

Ready for my lungs to breathe.

Some of the things that are pretty to me and make me appreciate God’s creation:

Saguaro cactus on a mountainside (picture taken during a day hike)
Even cactus in rock is pretty (as long as you don't step or sit on them)
My older son loves Cholla cactus skeletons (this one hasn't quite shed its skin)
Ocotillo cactus (also pretty as long as you look with your eyes, not your hands)

That is terribly heartbreaking about those little boys.
    Your pics are pretty.

Such different scenery from what I see every day, Janna! Yes, it nearly broke my heart, too, about those two little boys. So many sad things going on in our world — only by placing our trust in God can we survive!

I had to distract myself with other things and walk away from the news. Taking in the beauty in the world around me helped, too. Thanks for stopping by and checking out the scenery, Debbie 🙂

I find myself not paying as much attention to the news these days. Interesting photo of the cactus skeleton, I didn’t know they did that. I can’t imagine sitting on a cactus! Accidentally brushing against the one on my kitchen counter is more than enough interaction for me. Hope you feel better.

I go through spurts on hearing news…sometimes I think I’d be better off not knowing 🙂 I didn’t know about cactus skeletons either, until my older son told me about them. I have had a few brushes with cactus and they always win. The kids learn quickly, too. It only took once of them touching one after I told them not to!

Migraines are much better, now. A few days, a chiropractor and a massage do wonders. Thanks for visiting, Patti.

I have tried to not think too much about it…it is so sad and such a waste of two innocent lives.

I know, Jeanne. I had to back away from the news and busy myself with other things.

I think so, Phil. When we observe beauty, it’s a wonderful distraction from the not-so-good stuff in this world. Thanks for stopping by 🙂
